What is mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary, confidential and affordable process for resolving conflict with the help of a neutral, trained professional. The mediator assists parties in creating their own agreements using a proven process which addresses the interests of all parties involved. Participants often leave with a greater understanding of the situation and a mutually satisfying resolution.

Who are the mediators?

The DRC mediators are members of our local community who have taken specialized training to become certified as mediators. They represent the diversity of our communities in age, gender, language abilities, and ethnic communities.

What are mediator qualifications?

Volunteers must be certified as mediators. Certification requirements include a minimum of 36 hours of mediation training, observations of mediation sessions, practice mediation, and mediation experience. Endorsement in specializations within the field of mediation requires additional training and practice.
